At IFC Center, on this walk’s eastern edge in Greenwich Village, you can see new independent, foreign and documentary films alongside older ones. LGBTQ guest curators help shape Queer/Art/Film, one of the theater’s focused programs. The schedule includes premieres as well as older films.
Neighbors created Jefferson Market Garden where the Women’s House of Detention once stood. Its first flowers bloomed in spring 1975. You can follow a brick path around the lawn, visit the fountain and rose garden, or watch fish in the koi pond.

In Christopher Park, George Segal’s Gay Liberation shows two men standing and two women seated on a bench. Commissioned in 1979, the white-painted bronze sculpture was installed in 1992.
Christopher Park is at the heart of Stonewall National Monument. The park and nearby Stonewall Inn were centers of the 1969 uprising. At the separate Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center, exhibits and interviews share LGBTQIA+ stories.
At Murray’s Cheese, cheesemongers can offer tastes and help you choose from hundreds of cheeses from around the world. At the Bleecker Street flagship, you can pick up cheese, charcuterie and pairings for a picnic by the river, or get hot food from Bites on Bleecker.
Pier 45 is a place to picnic if you’ve picked up food on Bleecker Street. Its broad grass lawn stretches out over the Hudson and is nicknamed “green beach” in summer. You can sit on the grass or use the seating and shade structures.
Jazz players from several generations have performed and joined late-night jams at Smalls Jazz Club. The basement venue has served the music community since 1994. You can end the walk with a live band or jam session; the program lists the musicians and format.
