There’s an ancient Egyptian temple inside The Met. The Temple of Dendur was saved from rising waters and given to the United States by Egypt in 1965, in recognition of its help preserving Nubian monuments.
Grand Central Terminal
Look up when you cross the Main Concourse. Its ceiling holds 2,500 stars and 12 gold-leaf constellations, with the zodiac painted backwards. That’s a more interesting detail to catch between trains than the number of platforms downstairs.
Central Park’s landscape was carefully designed, right down to how it hides traffic. Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux placed its crosstown roads below the surrounding landscape, helping keep passing vehicles out of view as you walk through the park.
