Learn to shoot at Gotham Archery
Gotham Archery gets you shooting during your introductory class, with most of the session devoted to practice and a game. You begin with instruction in form and handling, then put that instruction to work with repeated attempts at the target. Equipment is included, so you can try the activity without assembling your own kit.

Work through a climb at Bouldering Project
Bouldering Project gives you short climbing problems to work through, trying different sequences of holds as you go. Farther south from the archery range, this gym occupies the former Daily News Garage, renovated in 2023.

Browse beyond the first room at No Relation Vintage
You’ll find L Train Vintage’s Gowanus shop under the name No Relation Vintage on Sackett Street, south of the climbing gym. Clothing racks fill a warehouse interior, but the first room doesn’t reveal the whole shop: continue through and it opens into another section.
165 2nd St
Meet the canal through the Gowanus Dredgers
The Gowanus Dredgers Canoe Club brings neighbors to the canal through paddling, environmental education and the arts. At its 2nd Street boathouse, west of the Sackett Street shop, you can encounter the industrial waterway through the work of people invested in its revival. Canoeing is seasonal and offered through scheduled programs, including free walk-up paddling on selected dates.
149 7th St
Follow the performers to the Bell House
Comedians, storytellers, podcast hosts and musicians all appear on The Bell House calendar, so the particular performer matters when you plan your evening. South of the boathouse, the venue brings those programs into a renovated 1920s warehouse. Its history includes Ask Me Another and Two Dope Queens, part of a longstanding connection to comedy and spoken-word performance.

Which Gowanus industrial landmarks are worth noticing on a walk?
A moving canal bridge and a former transit power station show two distinct pieces of Gowanus’s industrial history.
Carroll Street Bridge opened in 1889. Its unusual retractile structure moves diagonally, like a drawer, to let boats through the canal.
Powerhouse Arts (former Brooklyn Rapid Transit Power Station) incorporates the Turbine Hall of a 1904 transit power station. The rebuilt complex echoes the demolished Boiler House and retains historic details including brickwork, glazed tile and traces of graffiti.
