Visitors & Administration Building, 43-50 Main St
Queens Botanical Garden
You can follow the Fragrance Walk and herb beds at Queens Botanical Garden, then move among roses, perennial plantings and the Bee Garden. The Oak Allée and arboretum shift your attention upward to branches and canopy. Across these themed gardens, there’s room to look closely at individual plants as well as take in the trees, with Main Street’s shops beyond the grounds.
133-33 39th Ave
Gatcha at Tangram
Plush toys are the objects of friendly competition at Gatcha in Tangram, northwest of the botanical garden. You pick a prize to aim for, line up the claw and try to lift it out, while friends can follow each attempt. The first-floor clawcade brings East Asian arcade culture into the mall, with an arcade and shop alongside the claw machines.
133-36 37th Ave Ground Floor Tangram
Kokoro Cat Café
Rescue cats awaiting homes are the reason to visit Kokoro Cat Café, where you can spend time with them in a small-group cattery session. The Flushing café partners with Anjellicle Cats Rescue to house adoptable animals. Its Japanese-inspired setting and Japanese beverages make this a different Tangram stop from the clawcade, with the visit centered on time in the cats’ company.
34-41 137th St
Lewis Latimer House
Lewis Latimer’s work as an inventor, activist and community organizer unfolds room by room at Lewis Latimer House, north of Tangram. You explore his former home through Light Up the World, the permanent exhibition created for the museum’s 2024 redesign. The opening gallery connects his technological and cultural legacy to everyday life; A Definite Purpose follows his career amid the racial discrimination of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
149-19 38th Ave
Voelker Orth Museum
German-language newspaper publisher Conrad Voelker moved his family to this Flushing house in 1899. On a house tour at Voelker Orth Museum, you can see furnishings retained from the three generations who lived here. Family photographs from the early 1900s guided the restoration, while donated objects add to the picture of domestic life. The museum lies east of the downtown cluster, in Flushing’s Murray Hill neighborhood.
